You guys, I do not know what to do!
Will is totally in the shrieking phase....not angry shrieks, just playing, loud, happy shrieks. Which is fine and cute....when we're at home! Public, not so much.
My current prob is at church. We lasted 25 minutes at church today, then decided it just wasn't worth it to take turns in the hall.
We try books, quiet toys, Cheerios, etc.....
Help!
Moms out there....IDEAS?!

There really isn't an amazing solution to this problem. You just have to battle through it. Most people are understanding about the shrieks and cries and so don't feel too embarassed when it happens. I know it's hard not to because I still do sometimes. And just wait until he starts walking. It just gets harder because he won't want to hold still. You know my husband isn't a member so when Jayla got to this stage I just left her with him until she could go to nursery. I took the easy way out with her but I still have problems too. Some days you think why did I even try because I got zero out of it. But you're setting a habit for your child and eventually they will get with the program. I know it's hard though...Good luck.
ReplyDeleteHang in there. Going to church with a baby (happy or unhappy) is one of the biggest trials of my faith. (Not really. But kind of). It is so hard. But each phase is short lived (thank goodness).
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to think back to what Charlie liked at Will's age... Gerber puffs, "buzzy" teethers (they vibrate fairly quietly when you bite them), little lift the flap books that I only brought out during church, etc.
Good luck!
Oh Katie! Cache has been there, and now instead of screaming he just talks THE WHOLE TIME to everyone around us. No joke. If there's anyone behind us, I can guarantee they are getting NOTHING out of church, just like me lately The people around us seem to thoroughly enjoy the distraction. But just like what was said in that first comment, it really is more of a habit building thing than anything. I will admit we only lasted through Sacrament this week though. The last two meetings were a little too much for me to handle this week. Good luck! I'm glad it's not an ornery shriek. :)
ReplyDeleteLoud, happy babies sometimes get to go to nursery early. (Lucy did.)
ReplyDeleteTry packing Smartie Double Lollies or some mint flavored dental floss.
